Amiya J Hisham (b.1993) is a designer, writer, and visual artist based in Kerala, India. She co-founded Bottega studios in 2024 in Trivandrum. Her interdisciplinary practice spans charcoal, ink, analog collage, and photography, through which she explores themes of identity, belonging, ecology, and language. Her creative process often begins with visual notes, poetry, and diagrams, leading to layered works incorporating found objects and natural materials.

Her project In Case of Emergency / Maintain reflects on the complex intersections of cultural and social identities shaped by past generations. Her sense of being at the margins of multiple communities has led her to question belonging and creed. Finding solace in nature, she developed an early habit of collecting plant materials and rocks, which now inform her artistic language. This work, drawing from photographic archaeology, familial memories, and architectural studies, creates immersive installations—such as a room blanketed in jackfruit leaves, with tools like brooms and magnifying glasses inviting audiences to interact with the space. The installation presents both the discomfort of navigating the past and the agency to clear one’s own path.
