Anupama Alias’ (b. 1990) artistic practice interrogates gender and femininity, using painting as a tool to challenge traditional representations of self and other. Her work functions as an ethnographic account, drawing from personal experiences and the lives of those she encounters, often centering her own body as a site for transformation. By blending representational and aesthetic strategies, she creates disruptions in conventional narratives, fostering new sensorial experiences that unsettle embedded cultural constructs.

Anupama holds a degree in painting from RLV College of Music and Fine Arts and a postgraduate degree from S.N. School, University of Hyderabad (2016). She has participated in prominent exhibitions, including Young Subcontinent at Serendipity Arts Festival, Goa (2016); Piknik at La Friche de la Belle de Mai, Marseille (2017); Gwanghwamun International Artist Festival, Seoul (2018); Babur ki Gai at Latitude 28, in collaboration with Art District XIII, New Delhi (2018); and India Art Fair, New Delhi (2019). She was awarded the Krishnakriti Fellowship in partnership with the French Embassy in India (2016) and completed an internship at École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Marseille (2017).
