Sangeeta Kodimyala is an artist who explores themes of cultivation, settlement, and the evolving relationship between humans and the natural world in her drawings. Her art addresses the impact of human activity on geography, illustrating how landscapes can transform into metaphors of struggle for those living on them. Coming from a culture that emphasises the unity of existence, Sangeeta questions the concept of singularity in plural forms, seeking to find deeper connections in her work.
Graduated in art from Andhra University, Sangeeta’s artistic approach combines traditional techniques with an organic process. She uses natural Earth pigments, coffee, ash, and charcoal to create textured compositions that begin with a sense of chance and evolve into complex forms. Her work reflects a sense of transformation and interconnectedness, where history merges with the present, creating a timeless and cyclical feel. By incorporating Earth pigments foraged from places she has lived, Sangeeta brings a unique sense of locality and identity to her art, emphasizing the interconnectedness of all living beings.
