Mario D’Souza (b. 1973) lives and works between Paris, France, and Menetou-Salon. His practice explores memory, identity, and belonging, often drawing inspiration from nature and personal history. In his series, he illustrates vegetation, evoking memories of the exotic plants that surrounded him in his early years. His work reflects on how we carry moments of comfort and familiarity throughout life’s continuous flux, adaptation, and evolution.
In the process of self-discovery, Home Away from Home examines skin and texture as metaphors for human nature, celebrating the comfort of finding home and personal space. Through his work, D’Souza challenges conventional notions of belonging and identity, prompting viewers to reflect on these questions.
He completed his BFA from Chitrakala Parishath, Bengaluru, and his MFA from MSU, Baroda. His solo exhibitions include POCTB, Orléans (2014), Château d’Eau, Région Centre, Bourges (2012), Nuit Blanche, Paris (2006), Galerie Luc Queyrel, Paris (2004), and Time and Space Gallery, Bengaluru (2001).
