Smish Designs (b. 1988) is a contemporary artist, designer, and illustrator living and working in Mumbai, India. Her work challenges social constructs of gender, prejudice, and power. Known for her anonymity, she has become a significant voice in Indian protest culture, using her art to advocate for human rights and social justice. Through her online platforms, she documents social movements and political upheavals, focusing on recent events in India. Her work is direct, thought-provoking, and unapologetic, making her a critical force in contemporary activism.

Smish Designs holds a degree in Graphic Design from Parsons School of Design, New York. Her work has been widely covered in Indian and international media, including Taz.de (Berlin), The Caravan, Amnesty International, Vice, CNNNews18, The Hindu, Gal-dem Magazine (Singapore), Rana Ayyub’s Substack, Hindustan Times, and Indian Cultural Forum.

 

Through her practice, she continues to inspire dialogue and challenge societal norms.
