Sonali Sonam (b. 1995) lives and works in New Delhi, India. Her work explores the concept of beauty—an enduring and often controversial theme—rooted in her surroundings and personal experiences within a broader socio-political context. Her practice merges everyday activities with the vastness of nature and human presence, incorporating elements of Indian miniature art and surreal narration. By employing void spaces, she evokes a sense of wonder and imagination, encouraging deeper audience engagement.
Originally from Bihar, Sonali moved to New Delhi in 2019 after completing her studies in Santiniketan. Her time in Santiniketan, surrounded by its lush green landscapes, deeply influenced her appreciation for nature, which is vividly reflected in her work. Blending traditional aspects of Indian miniature painting with contemporary themes, she creates a dialogue between the past and present.
She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the College of Art, New Delhi. She is the recipient of the Shristi AIF Grant (2020) and was nominated for the CIMA Art Awards (2025). Her exhibitions include Citing Beauty at Gallery Exhibit 320 (2021), and she was also part of the India Art Fair (2022) with Exhibit 320.
