Sumakshi Singh (b. 1980) lives and works in New Delhi, India. As a multidisciplinary artist and educator her practice delves into themes of materiality, temporality, and the interplay between physical and ephemeral spaces. Her work encompasses interactive installations, paintings, drawings, and sculptures, often inviting audiences to engage with layered narratives of space, memory, and perception.
She completed her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Painting, Drawing and Art History from MSU (Maharaja Sayajirao University) in Baroda (2001) and her BFA in Painting and Drawing from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago ( 2003). As an educator, Singh has taught for five years at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and lectured at Oxford University, Columbia University and The Chicago Humanities Festival among other museums and colleges. She has mentored residencies for the Victoria and Albert Museum, TheWhyNotPlace 2010 and 2011 and was a visiting artist advisor at KHOJ Delhi.
Sumakshi Singh has been part of group shows at The Institutum, Singapore (2024); Vadehra Contemporary Art Gallery, curated by Priya Pall, Delhi (2024); National Crafts Museum and Hastakala Academy, curated by Mayank Kaul, supported by Devi Art Foundation (2024); South Asia Institute, curated by Shelly Bahl, Chicago (2024) and CSMVS Museum, curated by Jesal Thacker, Mumbai (2023). She had her solo shows at Afterlife, Exhibit 320, New Delhi (2023), Pages from a Dream Journal, Hermès, New Delhi (2019), A Blueprint of Before and After, The Wilfrid Israel Museum of Asian Art, Israel (2018). She received honors such as the Zegna Grant (2009) and the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Award (2005). Singh has participated in renowned residencies, including the MacDowell Colony, Skowhegan, Djerassi Foundation, and Fondazione Pistolleto.
